IMPORTANT UPDATE - 2020 Sudbury Regional Science Fair Cancelled
We regret to inform you that the Sudbury Regional Science Fair must now be cancelled for 2020 due to the evolving mandates regarding social distancing protocols and school closures related to the COVID-19 crisis.
To our student participants, we congratulate you for the work you have done on your Science Fair projects, we thank you for those who had registered and look forward to seeing you at our fair next year. If there is anything that the COVID-19 crisis makes clear, it is the importance of science and scientists in our society today. We encourage you to keep learning, keep inquiring and keep challenging the status quo!
To our judges, thank you for those who had volunteered once again this year to be judges for our fair. We hope that you will raise your hand once again next year to see the amazing work our students will have done.
To our valued sponsors, we thank you for your ongoing support. In light of the cancellation, our Sudbury Regional Science Fair Committee will be in touch with you in the coming weeks as to how any sponsorship and/or awards donations will be addressed for 2020.
Judging at the Sudbury Regional Science Fair
Judging is a very rewarding experience and a great way to connect with young, enthusiastic youth.
Our judges are charged with the responsibility of awarding over $50,000 in prize money, selecting projects and students to advance to the Canada Wide Science Fair, and encouraging all participants to continue thinking creatively and scientifically about issues of today and the future.
New and Returning Judges
Each year, we are very grateful to have a majority of our judges return to judge again. In addition, we are always looking for new judges to fill the spots of those who cannot return.
If you would like to become a judge, or are a returning judge and have not been contacted yet, please email Hélène Joly at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Registration as a judge is completed through our online registration website.
What to Expect as a Judge at the Sudbury Regional Science Fair
Judges gather on Saturday morning of the fair at 8:00 am for coffee, doughnuts and instructions from the Chief Judge.
Judges work in pairs or on their own and are given specific projects to judge based on their preferences established through the online registration process. Judges are given a timetable to follow and are permitted 10 minutes with each project.
You will be selecting winning projects based on established criteria and may be required to consult with other judges to select the best project(s) for a particular award or division.
The majority of the judging occurs between 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon, at which time judges are invited to lunch provided by the Science Fair Committee. Afternoon judging is reserved for finalizing decisions and selection of grand prize winners.
Judges are invited to the Awards Ceremony in the Fraser Auditorium on Sunday at 1:30 pm.
